Minimalist vs. Maximalist: Which One Are You?

Different people have different tastes when it comes to how they design their homes. Some prefer filling up every nook and cranny while others prefer to have a minimal amount of furniture and fixtures.

Knowing what you are in terms of how you design your home will help you not only figure out what kind of designer furniture companies in Singapore you need to approach but also come up with a budget that fits your style.

Are you a minimalist?

Being a minimalist does not necessarily mean not wanting to own many items. It just means that you prefer your space to be free from clutter as much as possible. It also means you prefer empty spaces and clean lines, as opposed to rooms filled with several items.

When it comes to the bedroom, a minimalist prefers only one to two pillows, one blanket, one to two bedside tables and nothing more. Having too many items in the bedroom can be strenuous for a minimalist because a room with several items is an eyesore for an individual who is like this.

When it comes to colours, a minimalist prefers solid colours and as few of them as possible. If you get to visit a minimalist’s home, you will notice that the walls often sport one colour and the furniture almost always have the same design and colour.

So, what do you think? Do you think you are a minimalist? Does it give you a headache whenever you are in someone else’s home, and there are too many different colours for each wall, or there is not much uniformity with the furniture?

Are you a maximalist?

You do not like empty spaces. But some maximalists do not just put any item in any place just to fill up the empty space.

Some maximalists still like filling up the empty spaces with cool and beautiful items or furniture. Also, maximalists like bold colours and they will use them to fill up those empty spaces. So, when you visit a maximalist’s home, you will notice that the walls have solid and various colours and that the whole house seems so vibrant.

Another characteristic of maximalists is that they like convenience, which is they like a lot of their stuff to be around and within reach. They want to have access to their stuff without digging through boxes.

Do you think you are a maximalist? If so, then perhaps you should start training yourself to plan properly on how to come up with a budget to appease the creative genius within you and not splurge on any item that catches your eye.

Figuring out if you are a minimalist or a maximalist is important if you are planning to remodel or renovate your home. A minimalist might buy a few items but could end up with a dull home, while a maximalist might buy a lot of items but could end up with a messy house. So, figure it out and try to keep your urge not to splurge and only splurge within reason.
